This paper discusses online gaming addiction, based on the theory of autopoiesis. Several studies have been made on internet addiction from the psychiatric or psychological point of view. However, there has been no study from the perspective of autopoietic theory. Therefore, this paper examines online gaming addiction from the stance of autopoietic theory. In taking this approach, it is pointed out that the boundary between reality and virtual image is ambiguous in human mentality. Furthermore, the risks which stem from being engrossed in online gaming are considered. Finally, opportunities for curing online gaming addiction are explored.
